Easy and free way to provide a client viewer on set using Capture One.

Want to provide your client with a monitor but only have your laptop? Here’s how to give them a look into your view using Capture One

People crowding the photographer

Recently on set, I was asked to share the client monitor to save people from crowding around the photographer’s monitor, as the budget limited us to one monitor for the four days of the shoot.

The Solution using Capture One Client Viewers and Video Calls

After checking the network connection, Kevin, the Digi based in Ireland, gave them a link to a Zoom call on a qr code where they could scan and view the client monitor on their personal device. Everyone sat back and reviewed from their phones or laptops.

This was done by creating a client viewing window and making sure it wasn’t in full screen. I then created the video call, added people to it, or printed off a QR code for those on set to scan. Make sure to share only the client viewer window, not your full screen. This allows you to still work on your laptop while the stream only shows that one selected window.

Some things to note when using this solution

Now, this was a quick, cost-free solution, thanks to Kevin, the Digi based in Ireland. But there are a few things to note: the image quality wasn’t the best, maybe 1080p or 720p. The colours would vary on everyone’s devices, as only the monitor I provided was colour calibrated. Additionally, there was no functionality for other team members, such as zooming in on the image, reviewing previous images, or rating them. Also, for closed sets where the images are sensitive, this is not the best way of sharing these online.

Give it a try before you arrive on set, and let me know what you think of this quick way to provide a client monitor. - Kevin, the Digi based in Ireland.
