NFL Europe Live Photography Workflow | Irish DigiOp Case Study
Project Overview
I was commissioned by a London-based production company working with the NFL’s European campaigns and social media coverage. The project was focused on the NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers, with the goal of delivering live images to fans across digital platforms.
As an Irish DigiOp and Digitech Ireland specialist, my role was to manage the complete photography workflow from capture through to final delivery.
The production required fast, reliable image processing while maintaining the quality and creative style expected from an international sporting brand.
The Challenge
Live sports photography moves quickly. Images need to be captured, processed, edited, and published while the event is still happening.
Two international photographers were brought in to cover the game, each with their own visual style. The challenge was creating a workflow that allowed images to be delivered instantly while keeping the photographers’ creative approach consistent.
The workflow needed to handle:
• Live image ingest
• Image editing and colour grading
• Social media optimisation
• Secure file management
• Backup systems
• Fast communication with the production team
Every image represented the NFL brand, so speed and accuracy were essential.
My Role as a DigiTech Ireland Specialist
As the Irish DigiOp on set, I managed the digital imaging workflow throughout the production.
My role included:
• Receiving and processing images during the game
• Editing and colour grading images in real time
• Matching the photographer’s visual style
• Preparing images for immediate social media release
• Managing image backups and file organisation
• Working directly with the NFL social media team
The colour workflow was a key part of the role. Each photographer had their own established look, and my responsibility was to maintain that style while adapting to stadium lighting and changing conditions.
This required both technical knowledge and creative judgement to ensure the final images reflected the photographer’s original intent.
The Result
The final workflow allowed the NFL team to publish high quality images throughout the match, giving fans access to key moments almost instantly.
The system ran smoothly from start to finish, with the client feedback being:
“We didn’t even notice you were there.”
For a live production, this meant the workflow operated seamlessly while maintaining image quality, speed, and reliability.
